Celek a kerná pahorkatina při východním úpatí Českého lesa zaujímající pokleslé území chebsko-domažlického příkopu. Rozloha tohoto celku činí 746 km2, střední výška pak dosahuje 491,1 m. Nejvyšším bodem je Chebský vršek (678,8 m). Tento celek sousedí s Českým lesem, Chebskou pánví, Slavkovským lesem, Tepelskou vrchovinou, Plaskou pahorkatinou, Švihovskou pahorkatinou a Všerubskou vrchovinou.
Hydrologicky patří tento celek do povodí Mže (jižní část) a Ohře (severní část). Ve střední části nalezneme větší množství rybníků. Střídají se zde lesy s rozsáhlejšími odlesněnými plochami. Zasahuje zde CHKO Český les.
